Game Recap: PHOENIX Finally, some life.
After five straight Ls, the Phoenix Suns came out swinging Sunday night and never let go, flattening the Toronto Raptors 120-98 in a game that was basically over before halftime snacks hit.
Wire-to-wire. No drama. No late wobble. Just defense, turnovers, and a team that looked tired of hearing about its own skid.
They forced 20 Toronto giveaways, turned those into easy runouts, and kept everything in front no blow-bys, no scramble mode, none of the weakside chaos that’s burned them lately. Toronto got up just 27 threes, well under their usual volume. That’s control. That’s discipline. That’s the version of Phoenix that stacks wins.
Head coach Jordan Ott didn’t overthink it.
“I thought we just played with intent right from the get-go,” he said. “Defensive physicality… we knew what they wanted to do. Guys found a way.”
Yeah. It showed.
Phoenix pushed the lead to 31 at one point. Game was cooked.
Key Performances
Devin Booker Running the Show
Devin Booker didn’t have to go nuclear. Didn’t need to.
He dropped 25, clean and easy 6-of-9 inside the arc, 3-of-6 from deep, perfect at the line. Controlled pace, picked his spots, didn’t force a thing. The kind of night where you blink and he’s already got 20.
Ott raved about his feel postgame, called it elite. Fair. Booker’s been playing point guard, shooting guard, problem solver all of it.
And the plus-minus? +32 when he was out there. That tells the story better than anything.
Jalen Green Keeps It Rolling
Jalen Green chipped in 20. Nothing flashy, just buckets when the offense stalled and a steady scoring pulse all night.
He’s now hit 15+ in nine of his last 10. Quiet consistency. Every contender needs that second or third option who doesn’t disappear. Green’s been that guy lately.
Collin Gillespie Heating Up From Deep
Collin Gillespie did what he’s been doing all year let it fly.
Four more triples. That’s 29 games this season with at least four makes from deep. He’s flirting with history now, sitting just nine threes shy of the franchise single-season record.
And yeah, the efficiency is real. Over 42% with 200+ makes. That’s rare air think Jamal Murray territory. Not bad company.
Ryan Dunn Brings the Juice
Ryan Dunn was everywhere early. Energy guy, chaos creator.
12 points, three steals, a couple of those “wait, where did he come from?” plays. Got out in transition, cleaned up misses, even threw down a putback slam that woke the building up.
With injuries thinning the rotation, that kind of spark matters. A lot.
Rookie Moment for CJ Huntley
Garbage time, sure. Still counts.
CJ Huntley checked in late, knocked down his first NBA bucket, and got the game ball after. Teammates made sure of it.
Small moment. Big deal if you’ve been grinding in the G League.
Turning Point
Defense Set the Tone Early
This wasn’t some third-quarter run or late push.
It started immediately.
Phoenix came out physical, cut off driving lanes, and forced Toronto into bad decisions. Live-ball turnovers turned into dunks. The crowd fed off it. The Raptors never settled in.
And once Phoenix got comfortable? Ball started popping, shots started falling, and the whole thing snowballed.
That’s the formula. Always has been.
Why Did the Suns Look Different?
Short answer: they defended like they meant it.
Longer answer: fewer rotations, better communication, and actual resistance at the point of attack. No free paint touches. No easy kick-outs.
When this team defends, everything else opens up. Transition buckets. Cleaner halfcourt looks. Confidence.
When they don’t? You’ve seen the five-game skid.
By The Numbers
- Phoenix improves to 10-2 when holding opponents under 100
- 12 steals on the night that’s 36 games this season with 10+ takeaways
- Booker’s +32 ties one of the best marks of his career
What’s Next?
No time to coast.
The Denver Nuggets are coming to town Tuesday. National TV. Different test entirely.
And if Phoenix wants to make this win mean something, they’ll need the same edge maybe more.
Because beating up a struggling Raptors team is one thing.
Dealing with Denver? Whole different animal.
